Volunteer at SQIFF 2017!

We are recruiting volunteers for this year’s Festival!

SQIFF 2017 will take place 27th September to 1st October in Glasgow and a key training date which all volunteers are expected to attend will be held on Saturday 23rd September 11am to 1pm at CCA on Sauchiehall Street, central Glasgow. Previous experience is not required, but enthusiasm for SQIFF’s commitment to equality and improving accessibility to the arts is essential. Travel up to £5 per day and subsistence costs are available.

We are committed to equality and accessibility for our staff and volunteers, so if you have any particular requirements for your application or for carrying out the post, let us know and we’ll do our best to meet them. See our accessibility info for information on measures we already have in place.

The deadline for applications is Friday 15th September. To apply, please complete the online application. If you have any queries, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at [email protected].

Why volunteer for SQIFF?

As part of the SQIFF volunteer team, you will provide invaluable support to the Festival, playing a vital role in ensuring the smooth running and success of the Festival. You will gain experience, working as part of a team at an inclusive international queer arts festival, and you’ll also get to meet plenty of amazing people from film directors to audience members to actors. When on duty there will be some time to catch some of the films. When not on duty, you’ll get free access to all of SQIFF’s screenings, workshops and parties!

What we are looking for in SQIFF volunteers?

• A commitment to SQIFF’s values of inclusiveness and equality for all

• People who are often marginalised from volunteering or working in the arts, for example: LGBTIQ+ people, people of colour, working class people, and people with disabilities

• People with an interest in films and/or filmmaking, particularly LGBTIQ+ filmmaking

• People who want to develop skills in team work and communication

• People who are open-minded and want to learn

• People who want to develop experience working in the arts and culture sectors

What will volunteers do at SQIFF?

You will be part of the front of house team and be responsible for the smooth running of all screenings, parties, and workshops at SQIFF. You will be welcoming audiences, distributing tickets, overseeing monitoring and evaluation, answering queries and questions, promoting festival events, and assisting with the welcoming of filmmakers and guests to the festival.

• The majority of shifts will take place at CCA and will be 4 hours, with breaks. You must commit to a minimum of two shifts

• You will be working in teams, and will have time to catch some of the films when you are on duty

• You must attend the training session on Saturday 23rd September

  1. Is it possible to attend the cca training but then only volunteer at Edinburgh events as I live here?

  2. Hi Lin, we only need volunteers for the Glasgow events during our main dates of 27th September to 1st October, in fact. However, if you wanted to volunteer at our workshop on working class lGBTQ+ representation in Edinburgh, that would be helpful and you wouldn’t need to attend the training: https://www.sqiff.org/event/sqiff-warm-ups-workshop-working-class-lgbtq-people-in-film-and-tv/. We only have this workshop and then one screening in Edinburgh, which we don’t need volunteers for as the venue has its own staff. If you’re up for volunteering at the working class workshop, just drop an email to [email protected] and she’ll give you details for this. Thanks!
