Engagement Coordinator

Deadline: Friday 7th August
Part-time, temporary contract / total of 180 hours (24 days) between Monday 24th August and Monday 26th October
Fee: £3240

The Engagement Coordinator will work to promote the Festival to LGBTQIA+ communities which are the most excluded from accessing film culture. You will have good knowledge of the needs and requirements of different communities and be able to effectively support people to access the Festival. You will work closely with the Festival team to get to know the programme and access measures we have in place, and to work out how best to engage different audiences. You will communicate directly with individual audience members and community groups to let them know about events and support them to attend.

The post is freelance and part-time with 180 hours (24 days equivalent) to be worked over the contract period. Distribution of hours is flexible with a concentrated period of work after the programme launch at the end of August and during the Festival dates of 5th to 18th October. Evening and weekend work may be required during the Festival. However, we can consider access requirements and be flexible with hours as needed.

It is essential that the person we employ is on board with SQIFF’s commitment to equality and improving accessibility to the arts. Understanding and lived experience of LGBTQIA+ and/or other marginalised identities would be an advantage. We are particularly looking for someone to fulfill this role who has understanding – including lived experience – of engagement and support of QTIPOC communities, refugees and migrants, and those in the asylum system.

Working with SQIFF

  • We have a policy that freelancers will not work more hours than they are paid for. Freelancers are responsible themselves for keeping track of their own hours and can raise any issues with completing tasks within paid hours at any time.
  • We share an office in the East end of Glasgow which we are not currently using due to the COVID-19 crisis. It may become available in the next few months but in the meantime, freelancers need to have wi-fi and be able to work remotely. We can consider contributing to digital access costs where these are a barrier to someone carrying out a role.
  • You must have your own laptop or computer. However, we can consider contributing to digital access costs where these are a barrier to someone carrying out a role.
  • We will pay any travel expenses within Scotland needed towards carrying our your role, which need to be agreed in advance.
  • We can consider access costs, for example, BSL interpreters or notetakers, which need to be agreed in advance.
  • Everyone working with SQIFF does so on a freelance basis. Our team working on the Festival is currently made up of a variety of people all with lived experience of LGBTQIA+ issues, and with a mix of lived experience as people of colour, and Deaf, Disabled, and working class individuals. We engage in ongoing work to address issues of exclusion within our organisation and at our events and encourage feedback on this.
