SQIFF Schools: Pride

September 29, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free

Summer, 1984 – Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is on strike. In London, a group of gay and lesbian activists decides to raise money to support the families of the striking miners. The Union seems embarrassed to receive their support but the activists are not deterred and set off in a minibus to a mining village in Wales to make their donation in person. And so begins the extraordinary story of two seemingly alien communities who form a surprising and ultimately triumphant partnership.

Robert Kincaid, a member of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners who was present at events in 1984, will join us for a Q&A after the film.

Presented in association with LGBT Youth Scotland.

The event is suitable for Secondary 4-6. The film contains some strong language and sexual references. We are screening the film with English subtitles for accessibility. If anyone attending requires BSL interpretation for the introduction, please let us know when booking.

The event is free for all schools, youth groups, and colleges. To book a place, email [email protected] with the name of your school or group, the name of the teacher supervising the trip, the number of pupils you would like to bring, and whether there are any accessibility requirements for anyone attending.
