Night Time
Step into the shadows with Nighttime, a trio of films exploring the eerie creatures, uncanny encounters, and mysterious worlds that emerge after dark. Blending live action and 3D animation, these works present unsettling figures, haunting silences, and an ominous sense that anything could happen. Moving between familiar Glaswegian backdrops and more distant, imagined realms, the films challenge our perceptions of everyday life and reveal the strangeness hidden beneath the surface. Fear and fantasy blur together and our imaginations run wild. Through striking visuals and haunting soundscapes, Nighttime lets us indulge in our curiosity about the unknown.
This screening will end with a Q&A with Gwen Hall (Kiss on the Shore by Moonlight) and curator Nat Lall.

A silent vampire film set in gothic Glasgow, visually (re)animated by Gwen Hall and scored by dj peanut. Loosely adapted from passages of Jalal Toufic’s ‘Vampires: An Uneasy Essay on the Undead in Film,’ the film crudely inserts a sultry digital character into live-action footage in an exploration of personal duality set to a dark experimental soundtrack.

In a surreal world, a rebellious teenage girl steals her father’s secret car key and escapes into the night. Reunited with her friend, they dive into a forbidden void where laughter and darkness collide, passengers transform into animals, and a strange journey begins, one that leads them beyond the boundaries of identity.

A wandering queer mestiza crosses deserts and underworlds guided by signs and snakes; when a rupture into susto separates her from herself, she moves through ancestral memory and earthly ritual, seeking a return through offerings and reciprocity.
