Vacancies: Guest & Volunteer Coordinators and Technical & Marketing Assistants

SQIFF 2016 will take place 29th September to 2nd October in Glasgow and we are recruiting for the following roles to help us make the Festival happen. To apply, please email your CV and a covering letter to [email protected]. We are committed to equality and accessibility, so if you have any particular requirements for your application or for carrying out the post, let us know and we’ll do our best to meet them.

Guest Coordinator
Deadline: Wednesday 20th July at 5pm
Part-time, temporary contract / Mon 1st August to Mon 10th October
Fee: £800

We are looking for someone to coordinate the visits of our Festival guests. This will involve working with SQIFF’s Coordinator in liaising with guests, coordinating travel and accommodation, creating guest schedules, and making sure all guests have any information they require and are well looked after during the Festival.

The post is part-time with a total of 80 hours to be worked over the contract period. Distribution of hours is flexible and will be worked out with the Festival Coordinator. You must, however, be available for a concentrated period of work in the weeks leading up to and during the Festival.

We are looking for someone who has at least 6 months experience (paid or voluntary) working in an administrative role at a film festival or other arts or community event. It is also essential that the post-holder is on board with SQIFF’s commitment to equality and improving accessibility to the arts. An interest in film, queer art, and/or LGBTQ+ issues would be advantageous.

This will involve working with SQIFF’s Coordinator in recruiting volunteers, leading volunteer training sessions and devising volunteer schedules, as well as managing volunteers during the Festival.

The post is part-time with a total of 80 hours to be worked over the contract period. Distribution of hours is flexible and will be worked out with the Festival Coordinator. You must, however, be available for a concentrated period of work in the weeks leading up to and during the Festival.

Technical Assistant
Deadline: Wednesday 20th July at 5pm
Part-time, temporary contract / Mon 1st August to Mon 10th October
Fee: £800

We are looking for someone to assist our Technical Coordinator with tasks leading up to and during the 2016 Festival (29th September to 2nd October). Primarily, this will centre on working to ensure that all films to be screened are subtitled/captioned for D/deaf and hard-of-hearing access, including creating film transcripts and subtitle files where they are otherwise unavailable. Other tasks will include sending and receiving films, and liaising with venue staff to resolve any technical issues.

The post is part-time, with a total of 80 hours to be worked over the contract period. Distribution of hours is flexible and will be worked out by the Technical Assistant in consultation with the Technical Coordinator. However, all applicants must be available for a concentrated period of work throughout most of September and especially during the four days of the Festival.

It is encouraged that applicants demonstrate previous familiarity with the technical aspects of screening films (though not necessarily in a professional context). In particular, any experience in adding subtitling or captions to film files will be valued, as will past use of subtitling software such as Aegisub or Final Cut Pro and/or transcoding software such as Handbrake.

As many of the tasks associated with creating subtitle files or dialogue transcription require extended periods of focus, it is recommended that all candidates have good concentration and/or the ability to manage tasks so that they can be completed to set deadlines. For all transcription and proofreading tasks, good listening and writing abilities, such as grammar and the ability to learn/consistently utilise captioning protocols, will be essential.

Unfortunately, SQIFF cannot provide any technical equipment, so the Technical Assistant will need to arrange their own access to any equipment required for their work. However, we will be as flexible as possible in ensuring that eligible candidates are not disqualified solely due to lack of such equipment.

It is also essential that the post-holder is on board with SQIFF’s commitment to equality and improving accessibility to the arts. An interest in film, queer art and/or LGBTQ+ issues would be advantageous.

Marketing Assistant
Deadline: Wednesday 20th July at 5pm
Part-time, temporary contract / Mon 1st August to Mon 10th October
Fee: £800

We are looking for someone to assist our Press & Marketing Coordinator in delivering our marketing strategy for the Festival, in particular taking responsibility for our online presence. Specific tasks will include uploading and maintaining event listings on our website and looking after SQIFF’s social media leading up to and during the Festival. We are keen to employ someone interested in developing original ideas for marketing the Festival via social media.

The post is part-time with a total of 80 hours to be worked over the contract period. Distribution of hours is flexible and will be worked out with the Press & Marketing Coordinator. You must, however, be available for a concentrated period of work in the weeks leading up to and during the Festival.

We are looking for someone who has experience (paid or voluntary) in marketing a film festival or other arts or community event or organisation. It is also essential that the post-holder is on board with SQIFF’s commitment to equality and improving accessibility to the arts. An interest in film, queer art, and/or LGBTQ+ issues would be advantageous.
