SUMMARY:Tchindas
DESCRIPTION:Tchinda is one of the most beloved women on Cape Verde\, especially after coming out as trans in a local newspaper in 1998. Since then\, her name has become the term used by locals to refer to queer Cape Verdeans. In the month leading up to Carnival\, the slow-paced atmosphere of the island transforms into a frenzied hustle as thousands flock to the streets. This award-winning doc explores the world of intersex people – those born with any one of a large number of variations that make their gender ambiguous according to traditional binary ideals. And\, by then\, her idea of a mockumentary on how to (and how not to) make queer porn had quietly changed into something different: a nostalgic look at nostalgia and a way to rewrite her own history. DESCRIPTION:Dr. John Markway\, an anthropologist with an interest in psychic phenomena\, takes two specially selected women to Hill House\, a reportedly haunted mansion. Eleanor\, a lonely\, eccentric woman with a supernatural event in her past\, and the bold (and all but openly lesbian) Theodora\, who has ESP\, join John and the mansion’s heir\, cynical Luke. DESCRIPTION:Described as ‘The Gayest Horror Movie Ever Made’\, Freddy’s Revenge is the first of many sequels to Wes Craven’s 1984 classic A Nightmare on Elm Street. Maligned for being cheap trash on its release\, the second film in the franchise has achieved cult status for its gloriously campy queer subtext. Virginal teenager\, Jesse\, feels he has something inside him that needs to ‘come out\,’ which turns out\, of course\, to be Freddy Krueger. DESCRIPTION:Leading up to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi\, a law banning the “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations to minors” – which could potentially be enforced against any LGBT person if they “flaunted” their status – was enacted in Russia. Human rights activists and LGBT people involved in the Games contemplated what to do about the situation. To Russia with Love documents their responses and reactions\, speaking to a variety of contributors\, including current and former Olympians and local LGBT campaigners. \nFollowed by a panel discussion on the political situation surrounding events. DESCRIPTION:As part of LGBT History Month Scotland\, we present a lovingly-curated selection of indie\, punk\, and DIY lesbian shorts from across half a century of filmmaking\, featuring known names and unsung (s)heroes alike.  Ranging from the hilarious to the experimental\, the programme features a rare screening of Caroline Sheldon’s witty and subversive 17 Rooms (Or What Do Lesbians Do in Bed?). Scheduled in 1986 for a prime slot on Channel Four’s pioneering In The Pink season\, Sheldon’s film was scandalously pulled at the last minute – not because of any explicit content but because it was thought audiences might object to its title. \nThis is a free\, unticketed event; donations are very much appreciated and will collected after the screening.  The screening is on the ground floor of our venue Transmission. SUMMARY:Workshop: Working Class LGBTQ People in Film and TV
DESCRIPTION:Beginning with clips from TV and film\, we examine how LGBTQ working-class identities have been demonised\, patronised\, and romanticised onscreen\, before considering representation we would like to see in future. We will also think about how cultural venues can be made more welcoming to working-class people. \nThis workshop is for working-class people (background and/or current situation) and allies. Although interactive\, there is no pressure to actively participate in discussion. It is run by two working-class femme lesbians who navigate middle-classness via their work.
