John Walter\, Country: UK\, Year: 2015 \nCourtship Disorder addresses cruising and sexual risk\, in particular around the ‘cottage\,’ a public toilet that is repurposed as a space of sex. Cruising for sex in real space has not disappeared despite the development of online cruising apps. ‘Courtship Disorder’ refers to a controversial term used by sexologists such as John Money to describe a spectrum of human behaviours\, especially in men\, including exhibitionism\, voyeurism\, toucherism\, rubbing\, and sexual assault. \n  \nKuhani (7m)\nDir. Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine\, Countries: Nigeria/Uganda/USA\, Year: 2013 \nAn experimental film inspired by Ugandan Catholic priest Father Anthony Musaala’s open letter to the church titled “The Failure of Celibate Chastity among Diocesan Priests.” Father Musaala is one of many Ugandans who have been persecuted as a result of the country’s recently introduced Anti-Homosexuality Act. \n  \nLove Letter / Prēma Lēkha (5m) \nDir: Neelu Bhuman\, Country: UK\, Year: 2015 \nAn abstract film exploring gender and race through the power of erotics and love. \n  \nTailor (10m) \nDir: Cala dos Anjas\, Country: Brazil\, Year: 2017\nTailor is a young cartoonist from Rio de Janeiro who started drawing cartoons to express issues around being trans he was facing and tell the stories of other transgender people. \n  \nMymy (14m) \nDir. Anna Helme\, Country: Australia\, Year: 2014 \nIn a mythic cyberfeminist universe\, a frustrated young man yearns for affinity and connection. In an age of digital avatars\, he crafts a version of himself that is far more corporeal – by stitching together parts of himself to become his own cyborg twin. However\, his new clone has been corrupted by a techno-magick virus… \n

DESCRIPTION:Two OWL (older\, wiser lesbian) couples accidentally kill a younger woman and hide the body but their dark secret comes back to haunt them in Cheryl Dunye’s experimental\, collaborative movie\, The Owls. Featuring Dunye’s trademark\, self-reflexive style where both characters and actors create video diaries adjacent to the main narrative\, The Owls also attempted collective filmmaking with cast and crew encouraged to pitch in ideas.\n \nThose involved form a roll call of lesbian film excellence with Guinevere Turner\, Lisa Gornick\, V.S. Brodie\, and Dunye playing the ageing\, bitter queers\, and Sarah Schulman\, Alex Juhasz\, and Campbell X amongst others working behind the scenes. Dunye’s fourth feature film as director is an under-appreciated examination of lesbian culture and aesthetics with a good dose of crime movie genre fun thrown in. \n \nThe film will be introduced by SQIFF’s Helen Wright. DESCRIPTION:SQIFF partners with Forth Valley Rape Crisis Centre to offer an interactive workshop which explores the impacts of sexual violence on LGBTQ people\, and considers how to improve the support available to the queer community from third sector feminist services. Discussion will focus on intersections of gender\, sexuality\, and sexual violence generally rather than talking about personal experiences. However\, support information will be provided at the beginning and end of the session. Although this workshop is interactive\, there will be no pressure to actively participate. In Being Okey\, a gay Nigerian man is denied asylum in Switzerland and consequently caught between the constant fear of being sent home and hope of a life in safety. ABEO is an animation by Latinx artist Brenda M. Lopez Zepeda depicting the journey of two immigrants risking their lives to cross the Arizona desert. My Shoreline is an experimental film-poem about a disabled queer body in water\, and My Own Wings documents intersex people from around the world. Working class queer bodies and class borders are forefronted in Krissy Mahan’s All in a Day’s Work and the implication of supposed sexual boundaries is explored in Patricia Silva’s bisexual ode\, A Feeling More Than a Picture. DESCRIPTION:How can we imagine and build a sex party space dedicated to our desires and needs? SKOOSH WORKSHOP is a space to experiment and explore this question in a group environment.SKOOSH comes to SQIFF with two workshops\, one at 12pm and one at 3.30pm.   \nSKOOSH is dedicated to celebrating desire and worshipping self-love through sex parties\, workshops\, and events for all queer people across Glasgow. You do not need to have any prior knowledge of sex parties to attend this workshop\, just an openness to explore. As a troubling pattern begins to emerge from their mouths in the form of shattered glass\, all are shaken\, but some are hit harder than others. Through dance\, visual work\, and anti-work\, they merge forces to try to care for one another and combat the insidious violent process which seems to increasingly come from within.

SUMMARY:Workshop: Documentary Filmmaking with Donal Mosher
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to welcome US-based director\, photographer\, and musician Donal Mosher to Glasgow for a filmmaking workshop hosted by SQIFF and Scottish Documentary Institute. \nDonal Mosher is the collaborative director with Michael Palmieri of the award-winning documentary features October Country\, Off Label\, and The Gospel Of Eureka\, as well as the shorts Rougarouing\, Marseilles\, and Peace in the Valley. He has published fiction\, non-fiction\, and reviews for The Fanzine\, Talkhouse\, and the LAMBDA award-winning Portland Queer Anthology. His photo project The Vibrancy Is Killing Me opened in Munich\, Germany in 2015 and became the basis for Strange Gardens\, an ongoing live cinema series that has been performed at the Risk/Reward Festival\, and toured the US with Pop Up magazine. \nIn this unique 3 hour workshop Donal will explore his approach to filmmaking. He will screen excerpts from his work and give feedback on your own projects in development. \nThere are limited places on this workshop available. During this claustrophobic open-air journey\, they touch on intimate subjects\, from making best use of three centimetres to Joanna’s recent breakup. However\, Suzie’s breakup advice leads to an unexpected confession. \nRUN(A)WAY ARAB (12m)\nDir. Amrou Al-Khadi\, Year: 2017\nNazeem is a 26 year old Middle Eastern drag queen who names herself QUEEN ZA DREAM – she is preparing for a show with the utmost gravity\, with an outfit evocative of an Egyptian deity.
 Interwoven with this is the story of Nazeem as a genderqueer 8 year-old boy\, and the close bond he has with his Iraqi-Egyptian mother\, Halima. Whilst flamboyant and in many ways a drag queen herself on the surface\, Halima is governed by the strict expectations of gender in Arab society. \nCinema Fouad (41m)\nDir. Mohamed Soueid\, Year: 1994\nKhaled\, a Syrian transgender migrant dreams of undergoing gender transition surgery. While trying to make a living from various menial jobs\, she falls in love with a Palestinian freedom fighter and joins his resistance. Gently\, compassionately\, Cinema Fouad draws a portrait of Khaled and introduces the viewer to one of Beirut’s rarely seen netherworlds.

SUMMARY:Workshop: SKOOSH 3.30pm
DESCRIPTION:How can we imagine and build a sex party space dedicated to our desires and needs? SKOOSH WORKSHOP is a space to experiment and explore this question in a group environment.SKOOSH comes to SQIFF with two workshops\, one at 12pm and one at 3.30pm.  \nSKOOSH is dedicated to celebrating desire and worshipping self-love through sex parties\, workshops\, and events for all queer people across Glasgow. You do not need to have any prior knowledge of sex parties to attend this workshop\, just an openness to explore. Please note\, the workshop is not a sex party. \nLed by queer artist and founder of SKOOSH\, Bobbi Cameron. Bobbi is an interdisciplinary visual artist based in Glasgow. Her practice runs in conversation with SKOOSH and uses queer feminist discourses to navigate\, celebrate\, and dissect issues around sexuality and sex spaces in contemporary culture. SKOOSH hosts a number of small sex and play parties throughout the year in secret locations across Glasgow.
