SUMMARY:SQIFF Family Film: Inside Out
DESCRIPTION:Do you ever look at someone and wonder what is going on inside their head? Inside Out ventures inside the mind to find out. Platform Glasgow is proud to present a FREE screening of Disney Pixar’s original new film as part of this year’s Scottish Queer International Film Festival. \nBased in Headquarters\, the control center inside 11-year-old Riley’s mind\, five Emotions are hard at work\, led by lighthearted optimist Joy (voice of Amy Poehler)\, whose mission is to make sure Riley stays happy. Fear (voice of Bill Hader) heads up safety\, Anger (voice of Lewis Black) ensures all is fair and Disgust (voice of Mindy Kaling) prevents Riley from getting poisoned—both physically and socially. Sadness (voice of Phyllis Smith) isn’t exactly sure what her role is\, and frankly\, neither is anyone else. \nWhen Riley’s family relocates to a scary new city\, the Emotions are on the job\, eager to help guide her through the difficult transition. But when Joy and Sadness are inadvertently swept into the far reaches of Riley’s mind—taking some of her core memories with them—Fear\, Anger and Disgust are left reluctantly in charge. Joy and Sadness must venture through unfamiliar places—Long Term Memory\, Imagination Land\, Abstract Thought and Dream Productions—in a desperate effort to get back to Headquarters\, and Riley. Pixar at its heart-tugging\, joyous best. \nWhy not make it a real trip out by checking out Platform’s Art Exhibitions\, Performance Programme as well as the public Library and Swimming Pool. \nACCESS: Level access\, ramps\, and accessible toilets (Platform). Films screening with subtitles for D/deaf and hard of hearing access. Film in English language.\n \nFREE but ticketed. Book tickets via the link below to be guaranteed a space. \n[bra_button text=’Buy Tickets’ url=’https://platform-online.ticketsolve.com/#/shows/873561276′ target=’_blank’ size=’medium’ style=’rounded’ color=’pink’]

SUMMARY:The Surface Tension Trilogy
DESCRIPTION:From activist and painter Frida Kahlo to filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl to Hitler’s lover Eva Braun – Liz Rosenfeld tells a trio of queer histories that may or may not have actually happened. Making no attempts to disguise the fact that\, despite taking place in 1924\, 1933 and 1977\, the films were clearly made in modern-day Berlin\, Rosenfeld turns the way we normally look at history on its head. \nDirector Liz Rosenfeld will join us for a Q&A after the screening. Presented in partnership with Goethe Institut Glasgow. \nACCESS: Level access with Cinema plus accessible toilets all on ground floor (CCA). Films mostly in German with English subtitles with some parts in English language with subtitles for D/deaf and hard of hearing access. Hearing loop available. If you would like to attend and require BSL interpretation for the Q&A\, please email info@sqiff.org at least one week in advance.\n \n£5 / £4 conc / Free for unemployed and asylum seekers. SUMMARY:Queer Horror: The Haunting
DESCRIPTION:Dr. John Markway\, an anthropologist with an interest in psychic phenomena\, takes two specially selected women to Hill House\, a reportedly haunted mansion. Eleanor\, a lonely\, eccentric woman with a supernatural event in her past\, and the bold (and all but openly lesbian) Theodora\, who has ESP\, join John and the mansion’s heir\, cynical Luke. They are immediately overwhelmed by strange sounds and events\, and Eleanor comes to believe the house is alive and speaking directly to her. The Haunting is a pretty solid argument for the underlying queerness of the Hollywood horror movie aesthetic. \nScreening with short film Cheat (2 mins). Followed by a discussion on queer horror hosted by Jordan Phillips with guest Dr. Darren Elliott-Smith\, researcher and blogger on queerness\, gender\, and the body in horror film and television. \nACCESS: Level access at entrance with lift up to first floor for Theatre space. Accessible toilets on first floor (CCA). Films screening with subtitles for D/deaf and hard of hearing access. BSL interpretation for discussion. Film in English language.\n \n£5 / £4 conc / Free for unemployed and asylum seekers. Festival pass £40 / £30 conc. SUMMARY:Queer Horror: A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge
DESCRIPTION:Described as ‘The Gayest Horror Movie Ever Made’\, Freddy’s Revenge is the first of many sequels to Wes Craven’s 1984 classic A Nightmare on Elm Street. Maligned for being cheap trash on its release\, the second film in the franchise has achieved cult status for its gloriously campy queer subtext. Virginal teenager\, Jesse\, feels he has something inside him that needs to ‘come out\,’ which turns out\, of course\, to be Freddy Krueger. Beyond this unsubtle\, central metaphor\, Jesse has a suspiciously close relationship with his male friend\, a sadomasochistic gym teacher who literally gets stripped and whipped\, and a supposed love interest who looks like Meryl Streep. \nIntroduced by Jordan Phillips\, queer horror maestro at Queen Margaret University. \nACCESS: Level access with Cinema plus accessible toilets all on ground floor (CCA). Film screening with subtitles for D/deaf and hard of hearing access. Hearing loop available. BSL interpretation for introduction. English language film.\n \n£5 / £4 conc / Free for unemployed and asylum seekers. Festival pass £40 / £30 conc. SUMMARY:SQIFF Closer: Real Boy
DESCRIPTION:‘I just want to be loved by my family\,’ says Bennett\, a nineteen year old trans man. ‘But for my family\, it’s not as simple as that.’ Ben’s mum is having a hard time coming to terms with her child changing. SUMMARY:To Russia with Love
DESCRIPTION:Leading up to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi\, a law banning the “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations to minors” – which could potentially be enforced against any LGBT person if they “flaunted” their status – was enacted in Russia. Human rights activists and LGBT people involved in the Games contemplated what to do about the situation. To Russia with Love documents their responses and reactions\, speaking to a variety of contributors\, including current and former Olympians and local LGBT campaigners. \nFollowed by a panel discussion on the political situation surrounding events. In partnership with LEAP Sports Scotland\, Abertay LGBT Society\, and Allsorts LGBT Youth Group. \nACCESS: Hannah Maclure Centre is accessible for people using wheelchairs. There are accessible toilets next to the screening space. Awaiting further information from venue. Please contact the venue for more details in the meantime on 01382 308324. Film screening with subtitles/captions for D/deaf and hard of hearing access. If you would like to attend and require BSL interpretation for the discussion\, please email info@sqiff.org at least one week in advance.\n \nThis event is free. Accessible toilet next to the bar back down the stairs or ramp (The Glad Cafe). English language films. Films screening with subtitles for D/deaf and hard of hearing access. SUMMARY:LUX Scotland and SQIFF present: Dani Leventhal
DESCRIPTION:Presented by LUX Scotland in association with SQIFF and Transmission\, American artist Dani Leventhal visits Glasgow to show and discuss her recent video work. \nHer videos are disjunctive\, diaristic\, and often feature people who become the unassuming subjects of her work. Describing her working process\, Leventhal says\, “I start with a subject that I care deeply about / I concentrate on fear\, desire\, anger\, confusion\, and love. / I concentrate on the emotional relationships between humans\, humans and animals\, and humans and their environments. / I am particularly interested in the way we develop based on our experiences in childhood\, and then the process of undoing it.” \nPresenting her shorts alongside her recent collaboration Hard As Opal with Jared Buckhiester\, Leventhal will also present a preview of her in-progress work\, Strangely Ordinary This Devotion\, a collaboration with Sheilah Wilson. \nThis is event is free and unticketed. \nACCESS: Transmission is accessible for wheelchair users via Trongate 103. Please enter at the street entrance to Trongate 103 and take the lift to the basement floor. Accessible toilets available. SQIFF has a policy of screening films with English subtitles or captions for deaf and hard of hearing access but unfortunately we are not able to do so on this occasion – big apologies for this.

SUMMARY:Lesbian with a Movie Camera
DESCRIPTION:As part of LGBT History Month Scotland\, we present a lovingly-curated selection of indie\, punk\, and DIY lesbian shorts from across half a century of filmmaking\, featuring known names and unsung (s)heroes alike.  Ranging from the hilarious to the experimental\, the programme features a rare screening of Caroline Sheldon’s witty and subversive 17 Rooms (Or What Do Lesbians Do in Bed?). Scheduled in 1986 for a prime slot on Channel Four’s pioneering In The Pink season\, Sheldon’s film was scandalously pulled at the last minute – not because of any explicit content but because it was thought audiences might object to its title. \nThis is a free\, unticketed event; donations are very much appreciated and will collected after the screening.  The screening is on the ground floor of our venue Transmission. Accessible toilet available. Films shown will include captions for better D/deaf and hard of hearing access.

SUMMARY:Workshop: Working Class LGBTQ People in Film and TV
DESCRIPTION:Beginning with clips from TV and film\, we examine how LGBTQ working-class identities have been demonised\, patronised\, and romanticised onscreen\, before considering representation we would like to see in future. Although interactive\, there is no pressure to actively participate in discussion. It is run by two working-class femme lesbians who navigate middle-classness via their work. SUMMARY:Fox and His Friends (Inverness)
DESCRIPTION:In 1970s West Germany\, a young working-class gay man wins the lottery and is taken advantage of by his overbearing bourgeois lover. New German Cinema superstar and queer filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder created his most explicit survey of gay culture in Fox and His Friends and stamped his trademark\, very cynical impression of human relationships onto it. Fassbinder himself plays the suggestible Fox with supporting cast featuring several from the director’s famous entourage including Harry Baer and Kurt Raab. A great chance to see a restored classic and an opportunity for those unfamiliar with the legendary filmmaker’s work to get acquainted. \nACCESS: Level access at entrance of Eden Court with Cinema space on ground floor. SUMMARY:Who Will Fuck Daddy?
DESCRIPTION:A hypnotic\, intensely personal film featuring a mix of mysterious and mystical images: a masturbating moon\, a couple having sex in a tent filled with balloons and electric lights\, a pair of vibrators hidden in a head of lettuce. Beautifully episodic\, Who Will Fuck Daddy? switches from documentary sequences about parenthood\, gender\, ecstasy\, and rebirth\, to cruising sites in the Swedish forest\, to the question of just how much pressure to put on a pair of nipples.
