SUMMARY:Workshop: Working Class LGBTQ People in Film and TV
DESCRIPTION:Beginning with clips from TV and film\, we examine how LGBTQ working-class identities have been demonised\, patronised\, and romanticised onscreen\, before considering representation we would like to see in future. We will also think about how cultural venues can be made more welcoming to working-class people. \nThis workshop is for working-class people (background and/or current situation) and allies. Although interactive\, there is no pressure to actively participate in discussion. It is run by two working-class femme lesbians who navigate middle-classness via their work. Leanne Dawson is a lecturer at University of Edinburgh and Laura Wylie is completing a Masters in sexuality and class at University of Stirling. \nSuitable for ages 15+. \nACCESS: Space on ground floor with level access throughout. SUMMARY:Workshop: Filmmaking with Lasse Långström
DESCRIPTION:Lasse Långström’s films – including Folkbildningsterror and Who Will Fuck Daddy?\, both screening in the Festival – are always personal\, political\, and unlike anything else you’re likely to see.  Collaborating with groups of friends\, his work is always inventive and anarchic – and often really funny as well. In this workshop\, Lasse will discuss his newest film\, which he describes as a dirty\, pleasurable\, experimental\, and occult tribute to alternative masculinities\, and a postpatriarchal affirmation of transgender infinite wisdom. DESCRIPTION:Filmmaker\, performer\, and musician Sky Deep\, whose directorial debut Enactone won Best Feature at the 2016 Berlin Porn Film Festival\, will lead a workshop investigating body positivity\, self-love\, and using porn-making as a means of therapy. SUMMARY:Workshop: Queer Storytelling with Catherine Gund SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:This event is now FULLY BOOKED – sorry for any disappointment. Please see our list of other fabulous free filmmaking workshops taking place during SQIFF 2017. There are also still tickets left for our screening of Catherine’s new film\, Chavela. \nFounder and Director of Aubin Pictures\, Catherine Gund is an Emmy-nominated producer\, director\, writer\, and activist. Her work focuses on sustainable social transformation\, sexuality and gender\, HIV/AIDS\, reproductive health\, and other social justice issues. She works actively with numerous organisations to this end and co-founded Third Wave Foundation\, which supports young women and transgender youth\, and DIVA TV\, an affinity group of ACT UP/NY. She was founding director of BENT TV\, a video workshop for LGBT youth. Her most recent films include Chavela (2017)\, Dispatches from Cleveland (2017)\, and Born to Fly (2014). \nIn this unique day-long workshop\, Catherine will explore her approach to making powerful\, character-centred films\, from shorts to features\, and her commitment to stories about LGBTQI communities. She will screen excerpts from her work and give feedback on your own projects in development. \nIn partnership with Scottish Documentary Institute.
