DESCRIPTION:On her way to the store with a group of friends\, trans woman Chrishaun Reed “CeCe” McDonald was brutally attacked and in defending her life\, a man was killed. After a coercive interrogation\, CeCe was incarcerated in a men’s prison in Minnesota. An international campaign to free CeCe garnered significant support from media and activists\, including actress Laverne Cox. Cox signed on as executive producer of FREE CeCe!\, committed to exploring the role race\, class\, and gender played in the case. In the end\, CeCe emerged not only as a survivor but also as a leader. \nFollowed by a discussion with Chryssy Hunter from Bent Bars Project\, a letter writing scheme for LGBTQ+ people in prison in the UK. DESCRIPTION:Tchinda is one of the most beloved women on Cape Verde\, especially after coming out as trans in a local newspaper in 1998. Since then\, her name has become the term used by locals to refer to queer Cape Verdeans. In the month leading up to Carnival\, the slow-paced atmosphere of the island transforms into a frenzied hustle as thousands flock to the streets. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fantastic day of preview screenings of upcoming LGBTQI+ film releases. The event is open to both film programmers and LGBTQI+ groups who are interested in screening films. \nFor existing film groups\, the Preview Day will be an opportunity to see new films prior to public release\, from a selection of distributors you may not have encountered before. We will be screening four new titles that we hope will help inform your future programme. \nIf you are an LGBTQI+ group that is considering screening films\, Cinema For All and SQIFF (Scottish Queer International Film Festival) will be on hand to give you the support and information you need to help establish your own community cinema/ film society\, as well as offering tailored advice on inclusivity and accessibility. SUMMARY:SQIFF presents: Queers in the City
DESCRIPTION:A selection of shorts looking at the relationship of LGBTQ+ people to cities. In depicting anonymous cruising\, lamenting gentrification\, showing cities as a backdrop to loneliness and personal pain\, and creating comedy subversion of urban imagery\, these films recognise the unique place of queers in the city space. Featuring work by both international and local artists plus a filmmaker Q&A. Open to ages 15+. \nAll films will be subtitled or captioned for D/deaf and hard of hearing access. We will have a BSL interpreter for the Q&A. GMAC Film is a wheelchair accessible venue. There is level access at the entrance and then a lift up to GMAC Film’s 5th Floor location\, and an accessible toilet near the screening space. SUMMARY:Tangerine plus Deep Breath
DESCRIPTION:Tangerine (2015) starring Kitana Kiki Rodriguez and Mya Taylor made waves for being one of the few feature films about trans women played by actual trans women actors as well as being shot entirely on an iPhone. Sin-Dee Rella\, a sex worker who has just finished a 28-day prison stint\, meets her friend Alexandra at a donut shop in Hollywood on Christmas Eve. Alexandra accidentally reveals that Sin-Dee’s boyfriend and pimp Chester has been cheating on her with a cisgender woman. Sin-Dee storms out to search the neighborhood for Chester and the woman. \nFollowed by short film Deep Breath\, made as part of SQIFF 2015 and Scottish Transgender Alliance’s (STA) trans filmmaking course. The course participants will join us for a Q&A to talk about their experiences making the film. STA will also discuss its new Trans Friendly Venue Charter at the event. \nOver 18s only. \nFree. There is an accessible toilet. The films will screen with English subtitles to make the event more accessible for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. We will have a BSL interpreter for the Q&A.
