SUMMARY:Dundead: SQIFF presents Sleepaway Camp
DESCRIPTION:🔊 Listen to this Event Page\n \n \nWe are delighted that this screening will be introduced by Indigo Korres\, Director of SQIFF. \nOne of the definitive cult horror films\, Sleepaway Camp is a trashy teen slasher in the Friday the 13th mould. And while slasher films can be broadly remembered for their restrictive heteronormativity\, Sleepaway Camp is particularly notable for its exploration of queer themes. Sleepaway Camp is not subtle or necessarily in good taste\, and often plays into problematic tropes\, but the film has nonetheless been reclaimed and celebrated by queer audiences in the years since its release. \nShy\, mute Angela (an iconic performance by Felissa Rose) goes to stay at Camp Arawak with her cousin Ricky. Unlike other teen slashers\, Sleepaway Camp’s cast of campers are mostly made up of actual teenagers\, and the scenes of them hanging out and misbehaving feel refreshingly authentic. It also means that when the teens are put in danger\, the results feel particularly transgressive. \nThere is an element of sexual violence to some scenes near the start\, and while thankfully restrained in terms of onscreen depictions\, there can be a bit of a nasty streak to the film. \nIt’s a fascinatingly thorny film with an undeniable legacy\, filled with brilliant moments\, memorable performances and a truly unforgettable\, and now rightly iconic\, ending. \nTickets are on a pay what you can sliding scale of FREE\, £4\, £8\, £12\, £16\, or £20. To book your ticket for this event\, click here. \n  \nAccessibility \nThis programme has: \n\nEnglish audio with English language Descriptive Subtitles\nText on Screen for the introduction\n\nThis screening is 84 minutes long. \n  \nDonate: \nDonate to SQIFF via PayPal or sign up to one of our four Patreon tiers to support our work and show us you’re a big SQIFF fan 🌈✨ \n  \nImage Credit: Castration Movie Anthology ii. SUMMARY:Fantasy Field Recording with Nat Lall
DESCRIPTION:🔊 Listen to this Event Page\n \n \n  \nExpect an intro to Foley\, Spatial Audio and my own concept of ‘IRL field recording’. \nFoley lets you create a range of textural sound effects to add into films. Spatial Audio lets you create a physical space with your recordings. It lets your audience transport to vast otherworldly dimensions… without you having to leave the comfort of your home or studio. \nIRL Field Recording is a concept. I coined during my BA in Sound Arts. The soundscapes are dreamed up and carefully devised. The name represents my skeptical views towards the ‘facts’ of science\, reality\, and notably gender. Who constructed these ‘facts’ anyway? Is everything not sci-fi to an extent? \nFacilitated by Nat Lall. \nVenue: Project Space 2\, 2nd floor\, Assembly Building/GSA Students’ Association\, 20 Scott Street. \nPresented in partnership with GSA Students’ Association. \nTickets are FREE. To book\, click here and you’ll be redirected to the GSA Students’ Association website. \n  \nDonate: \nDonate to SQIFF via PayPal or sign up to one of our four Patreon tiers to support our work and show us you’re a big SQIFF fan 🌈✨ \n  \nImage Credit: Tiu Makkonen

Jamie Crewe): A film commssioned by Edinburgh International Book Festival\, 2021\, in response to Shola Von Reinhold’s novel LOTE (2020). Made in homage to Curtis Harrington’s film The Wormwood Star (1956)\, a portrait of the artist Cameron\, the film finds Shola in the attic of Preston Hall\, Midlothian\, undergoing a transportation. A section of LOTE is read over churning abstract liquids\, and finally an escape. \nA Trans with a Movie Camera (2018\, Dir. Frances Damian Arpaia): A non-narrative cine-essay that collaboratively explores the potentials for trans-feminine representation in film. \nThe Backside of God (2020\, Dir. Hogan Seidel): The Backside of God is an experimental documentary utilizing archival footage\, digital glitch\, chemical abstraction\, and direct animation to explore the intricacies of the artist’s relationship with their familial\, religious\, and queer identity. \nBigger on the Inside (2022\, Dir. Angelo Madsen Minax): From an isolated wooded cabin a trans man star gazes\, scruff chats with guys\, watches youtube tutorials\, takes drugs\, and lies about taking drugs – feeling his way through a cosmology of embodiment. Relative to the immensity of longing\, the bodily insides become both portal and lens through which to probe the porousness between interior and exterior\, the micro and macro. SUMMARY:Exhibition: Phreaking Gender
DESCRIPTION:🔊 Listen to this Event Page\n \n \n  \nPHREAKING GENDER expands the themes of Nicole O’Reilly’s titular documentary into an installation art show. O’Reilly teams up with Luke ‘Luca’ Cockayne to create a space for all to explore their relationship to gender and the ways that art can support and enhance The Transgender Experience™.  In the face of oppressive paternalistic medical systems that deny trans people bodily autonomy\, and at a time when our very existence is threatened\, PHREAKING GENDER provides a techno-anarchist manifesto\, showing that self-augmentation and the creation of radical queer communities is not just a necessity for wellbeing\, but as an act of empowerment and rebellion in itself. Work by Nicole O’Reilly & Luke ‘Luca’ Cockayne. \nThis exhibition is open from 3-9pm on 26th\, 27th and 28th September at the Creative Lab in CCA\, Glasgow \nThis exhibition is FREE. \n  \nACCESSIBLITY  \nContent Warnings: \n\nDiscussion of gender dysphoria\, suicide\, familial abuse;\nDepiction of nudity\, needles\, kinky activities\, sexual content\, drug use\, transphobia\, body fluids.\n\nThis exhibition has strobing lighting. \nThis installation has an age recommendation of N/C 18+. \nEnglish audio with English language captions.  \nWe have an Audience Access Fund for travel. SUMMARY:Sediments at GFT\, Glasgow
DESCRIPTION:  \n\nLike the Earth\, our interior is formed by different strata\, which forge our identity and tell our life story. What circumstances intervene in this process and make us become who we are today? \nSix trans women travel to a small town in León where they will explore unusual landscapes\, as well as the ins and outs of their own personalities. Looking for answers about what connects them as a group\, they will learn to deal with their differences.  \nSediments is an engaging and fun story about empathy\, individuality and the need to belong. It is the present radiography of a collective\, which looks into the past and projects itself into the future\, celebrating the extraordinary possibility of being unique and unrepeatable. \nSupported by Film Hub Scotland\, part of the BFI’s Film Audience Network\, and funded by Screen Scotland and National Lottery funding from the BFI. \nCurated by Indigo Korres. \nTickets are on a pay what you can sliding scale of FREE\, £2\, £4\, £6\, £8\, or £10. SUMMARY:Framing Agnes + Conversation at GFT Glasgow
DESCRIPTION:Agnes\, the pioneering\, pseudonymized\, transgender woman who participated in Harold Garfinkel’s gender health research at UCLA in the 1960s\, has long stood as a figurehead of trans history. \nIn this rigorous cinematic exercise that blends fiction and nonfiction\, director Chase Joynt explores where and how her platform has become a pigeonhole. Framing Agnes endeavors to widen the frame through which trans history is viewed — one that has remained too narrow to capture the multiplicity of experiences eclipsed by Agnes’.  \nThrough a collaborative practice of reimagination\, an impressive lineup of trans stars take on vividly rendered\, impeccably vintage reenactments\, bringing to life groundbreaking artifacts of trans healthcare.  \nJoynt’s signature form-rupturing style radically reenvisions the imposition of the frame on the cultural memory of transness through his brilliantly crafted\, communally-driven excavation. This reclamation tears away with remarkable precision the myth of isolation as the mode of existence of transgender history-makers\, breathing new life into a lineage of collaborators and conspirators who have been forgotten for far too long. \nFollowing the screening of Framing Agnes\, stay tuned for a conversation with local trans and non-binary people on inter-generational trans experiences and creating space for the community. \nCurated by Indigo Korres. \nTickets are on a pay what you can sliding scale of FREE\, £2\, £4\, £6\, £8\, or £10. To book\, click the button below or call the GFT Box Office on 0141 332 6535. \n[bra_button text=’Buy Tickets’ url=’https://glasgowfilm.org/whats-on/all/booking?eventid=53102′ target=’_blank’ size=’medium’ style=’rounded’ color=’pink’] \n  \nAccessibility: \nThis screening has an age recommendation of N/C 15+. \nEnglish audio and British Sign Language with English language captions.
