DESCRIPTION:“Failing is something queers do and always have done exceptionally well…” Jack Halberstam’s 2011 book The Queer Art of Failure explores how failure can be embraced as a form of resistance to the demands of heterosexual\, capitalist society. DESCRIPTION:Tchinda is one of the most beloved women on Cape Verde\, especially after coming out as trans in a local newspaper in 1998. Since then\, her name has become the term used by locals to refer to queer Cape Verdeans. In the month leading up to Carnival\, the slow-paced atmosphere of the island transforms into a frenzied hustle as thousands flock to the streets.
