SUMMARY:SQIFF Opener: The Misandrists
DESCRIPTION:Queer film legend Bruce LaBruce’s newest feature dives headlong into the world of the Female Liberation Army hiding out in the heart of Gerwomany. Led by Big Mother\, the FLA indoctrinates its young recruits to take up the struggle of freeing all female people through a mix of revolutionary porn-making\, songs about taking down the patriarchy\, and even a sneaky dancing nun. But does the FLA’s brand of radical feminism hide some darker and more exclusionary beliefs? \nWe are excited to be joined by director Bruce LaBruce and actor Caprice Crawford for a Q&A after the screening followed by a drinks reception. \nPresented in partnership with Goethe Institut Glasgow. \nACCESS: Level access at entrance of CCA with lift up to first floor for Theatre space. Accessible toilets available. English language with English captions. BSL interpretation for Q&A. Hearing loop. \nContent note: depiction of violence and real surgical operations\, discussion of sexual assault. \nTicket prices on a sliding scale according to your circumstances. Choose between FREE\, £2\, £4\, £6\, or £8 (prices include CCA booking fee) according to what you can afford. See our ticketing information for more details. \nTo book\, please use the button below or call CCA box office on +44 (0)141 352 4900. \n[bra_button text=’Buy Tickets’ url=’https://ccaglasgow.ticketsolve.com/shows/873579695/events?TSLVq=5b9ab0be-37ac-4c42-b1d2-1f5ecfb3a496&TSLVp=95e99a79-989c-49e0-898a-9b916c94473b&TSLVts=1500893585&TSLVc=ticketsolve&TSLVe=ccaglasgow&TSLVrt=Safetynet&TSLVh=590b6509ecd3a8f004518f717c51980a’ target=’_blank’ size=’medium’ style=’rounded’ color=’pink’]

SUMMARY:Workshop: Working Class LGBTQ People in Film and TV
DESCRIPTION:Beginning with clips from TV and film\, we examine how LGBTQ working-class identities have been demonised\, patronised\, and romanticised onscreen\, before considering representation we would like to see in future. We will also think about how cultural venues can be made more welcoming to working-class people. \nThis workshop is for working-class people (background and/or current situation) and allies. Although interactive\, there is no pressure to actively participate in discussion. It is run by two working-class femme lesbians who navigate middle-classness via their work. Leanne Dawson is a lecturer at University of Edinburgh and Laura Wylie is completing a Masters in sexuality and class at University of Stirling. \nSuitable for ages 15+. \nACCESS: Space on ground floor with level access throughout. Accessible toilet available. BSL interpretation for event. \nThis workshop is FREE with booking in advance recommended. To book\, please use the button below. \n[bra_button text=’Buy Tickets’ url=’https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/workshop-working-class-lgbtq-people-in-film-tv-ages-15-tickets-37039391818′ target=’_blank’ size=’medium’ style=’rounded’ color=’pink’]

SUMMARY:SQIFF Shorts: Regen(d)eration
DESCRIPTION:SQIFF and Hidden Door collaborate to bring you a lovingly curated programme of shorts exploring queer notions of rebirth to consider how we (re)construct\, navigate and negotiate our queer identities. From captivating\, tender animations to the provocative\, exciting\, experimental\, this selection of short films showcases some SQIFF favourites made by queer people about queer people! \nACCESS: All films will be screened with subtitles to make them more accessible for D/deaf and hard of hearing audiences. Unfortunately\, we have been informed that due to the derelict and temporary nature of Hidden Door’s venue\, the cinema space will not be wheelchair accessible and we are really sorry about this. Please contact festival@hiddendoorblog.org for further information about the venue’s accessibility. \nTickets are £16 (concessions £14)\, which includes admission to all Hidden Door events on 2nd June. We have a limited amount of free tickets for those who are unemployed and for asylum seekers as well as some half price tickets (£8) for those on a low income. Please email laura@sqiff.org if you require a discount code for either of these ticket options as they must be booked in advance through the ticketing webpage. \n[bra_button text=’Buy Tickets’ url=’http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2879664′ target=’_blank’ size=’medium’ style=’rounded’ color=’pink’]

SUMMARY:Lesbian with a Movie Camera
DESCRIPTION:As part of LGBT History Month Scotland\, we present a lovingly-curated selection of indie\, punk\, and DIY lesbian shorts from across half a century of filmmaking\, featuring known names and unsung (s)heroes alike.  Ranging from the hilarious to the experimental\, the programme features a rare screening of Caroline Sheldon’s witty and subversive 17 Rooms (Or What Do Lesbians Do in Bed?). Scheduled in 1986 for a prime slot on Channel Four’s pioneering In The Pink season\, Sheldon’s film was scandalously pulled at the last minute – not because of any explicit content but because it was thought audiences might object to its title. \nThis is a free\, unticketed event; donations are very much appreciated and will collected after the screening.  The screening is on the ground floor of our venue Transmission. Accessible toilet available. Films shown will include captions for better D/deaf and hard of hearing access.

SUMMARY:Queer Horror: The Haunting
DESCRIPTION:Dr. John Markway\, an anthropologist with an interest in psychic phenomena\, takes two specially selected women to Hill House\, a reportedly haunted mansion. Eleanor\, a lonely\, eccentric woman with a supernatural event in her past\, and the bold (and all but openly lesbian) Theodora\, who has ESP\, join John and the mansion’s heir\, cynical Luke. They are immediately overwhelmed by strange sounds and events\, and Eleanor comes to believe the house is alive and speaking directly to her. The Haunting is a pretty solid argument for the underlying queerness of the Hollywood horror movie aesthetic. \nScreening with short film Cheat (2 mins). Followed by a discussion on queer horror hosted by Jordan Phillips with guest Dr. Darren Elliott-Smith\, researcher and blogger on queerness\, gender\, and the body in horror film and television. \nACCESS: Level access at entrance with lift up to first floor for Theatre space. Accessible toilets on first floor (CCA). Films screening with subtitles for D/deaf and hard of hearing access. BSL interpretation for discussion. Film in English language.\n \n£5 / £4 conc / Free for unemployed and asylum seekers. Festival pass £40 / £30 conc. SUMMARY:The Surface Tension Trilogy
DESCRIPTION:From activist and painter Frida Kahlo to filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl to Hitler’s lover Eva Braun – Liz Rosenfeld tells a trio of queer histories that may or may not have actually happened. Making no attempts to disguise the fact that\, despite taking place in 1924\, 1933 and 1977\, the films were clearly made in modern-day Berlin\, Rosenfeld turns the way we normally look at history on its head. \nDirector Liz Rosenfeld will join us for a Q&A after the screening. Presented in partnership with Goethe Institut Glasgow. \nACCESS: Level access with Cinema plus accessible toilets all on ground floor (CCA). Films mostly in German with English subtitles with some parts in English language with subtitles for D/deaf and hard of hearing access. Hearing loop available. SUMMARY:When We Are Together We Can Be Everywhere
DESCRIPTION:When Marit Östberg finally had enough time to edit the footage she shot in 2011\, it was already four years old. And\, by then\, her idea of a mockumentary on how to (and how not to) make queer porn had quietly changed into something different: a nostalgic look at nostalgia and a way to rewrite her own history. Now\, she could look back at the idealism of the community she had lived and worked in\, but from the perspective of knowing how things had turned out. The result became something beautiful and thoughtful and funny and sad – and still very\, very hot. A film for sex-positive dreamers everywhere. \nWe’re pleased star Liz Rosenfeld will join us for a Q&A after the screening. Presented in partnership with Goethe Institut Glasgow. \nACCESS: Level access with Cinema plus accessible toilets all on ground floor (CCA). Film mostly in English language screening with subtitles for D/deaf and hard of hearing access. Some German language segments throughout. SUMMARY:Queer Horror: Otto; or Up with Dead People
DESCRIPTION:Transgressive filmmaker Bruce LaBruce gave the zombie genre a distinctive update with Otto\, set in a not-too-distant future in which the undead have evolved the ability to speak and reason\, yet are still persecuted by the living. Sensitive Otto wanders the streets of Berlin before being recruited by eccentric filmmaker Medea Yarn for her zombie insurrection “magnum corpus” Up with Dead People. Whilst the eponymous hero struggles with unliving in the world\, LaBruce’s film develops into a savagely irreverent critique of consumer culture and a moving parable for being different. \nScreening with short Sauna the Dead: A Fairy Tale (21 mins). Introduced by Jordan Phillips\, queer horror maestro at Queen Margaret University. \nContent note: hardcore zombie sex and eating of flesh. \nACCESS: Level access with Cinema plus accessible toilets all on ground floor (CCA). Films screening with subtitles for D/deaf and hard of hearing access. Hearing loop available. BSL interpretation for introduction. Films in English language with long scenes with no dialogue.\n \n£5 / £4 conc / Free for unemployed and asylum seekers. Festival pass £40 / £30 conc.
