DESCRIPTION:Presenting a selection of the compelling array of queer filmmaking happening in Scotland. A gay man drags his friend into lying to his mother with hilarious results\, a Polish woman gives insights into why she chose to leave her country to move to Edinburgh\, a mother-daughter relationship in the year 2020 proves surprising\, and a bisexual woman from China explores her identity amongst the varied approaches in this showcase. \nWe will to be joined by at least one filmmaker from each featured short film for a Q&A after the screening. \nACCESS: Level access at entrance of CCA with lift up to first floor for Theatre space. DESCRIPTION:The worldwide stage appearances and workshops of gender activist and performance artist Diane Torr are legendary. For over thirty years\, the focus of Diane’s work was an exploration of the theoretical\, artistic\, and practical aspects of gender identity. Director Katarina Peters observes a Berlin workshop taught by Diane\, in which a group of open-minded women come together to discover the secrets of masculinity. What makes a man a man and a woman a woman? Precisely when and where is gender identity created? How much is nature and how much nurture? \nWith an introduction by Angie Dight – director of Mischief La–Bas\, which focuses on innovative theatrical experiences\, and Stephen Greer\, theatre academic and cultural critic at University of Glasgow – celebrating the life and work of artist\, activist\, and educator\, Diane Torr\, who sadly passed away earlier this year. \nACCESS: Level access at entrance of CCA with lift up to first floor for Theatre space. DESCRIPTION:Zaynab is a thirty-something Pakistani\, Muslim\, lesbian lawyer living in Chicago who begins a romance with Alma\, a confident and vivacious Mexican-American woman. Zaynab’s recently widowed mother Parveen spends her days watching Pakistani TV dramas while searching for a potential husband for her daughter. Alma’s mother\, Rosa\, is a former professional Luchadora\, which Zaynab finds fascinating as she has recently taken up lucha-style wrestling. Co-written by and starring Fawzia Mirza\, Signature Move is a hilarious and honest look at a queer Muslim experience. \nPreceded by the presentation of our award for Best Scottish Short.
