When a stranger makes Sophia late for a TaskRabbit gig\, she loses her temper with her\, only to run into her repeatedly and discover a strong connection. DESCRIPTION:What does your town look like from someone else’s perspective? What’s it like to hold hands with a complete stranger and walk through the city centre? \nPerformance art and mobile technology converge in Walking:Holding\, a meditative documentary that journeys through urban landscapes exploring identity and intimacy in public space with a focus on LGBTQ+ experiences. \nThis film is a response to Glasgow based artist Rosana Cade’s award-winning interactive performance of the same name\, which invites audience members to embark on a carefully designed route through a town whilst holding hands with a series of different local participants. Shot entirely on mobile phones\, the film follows the performance to 6 towns across the UK between June and November 2016\, bookended by the Brexit vote and the election of Donald Trump. This unique collaborative documentary offers an insight into the intimate work at a particularly poignant time in terms of identity politics\, weaving together a range of perspectives and experiences from across the country. \nFollowed by a discussion with the filmmakers and participants of the Walking:Holding performance. DESCRIPTION:1939 Hollywood fantasy movie\, The Wizard of Oz\, is known for its strong association with gay male culture\, thought to be the origin for homosexual men using the code ‘Friend of Dorothy’ to identify themselves to each other from the 1950s onwards. However\, other readings are possible. Academic writer Alexander Doty saw Dorothy as a lesbian\, torn between her attraction to the femme Glinda and butch Wicked Witch of the West. Meanwhile\, internet user ‘Spoofmaster’ posted a reading of the film online which regards Dorothy as asexual because she chooses gay non-human companions – that’s the Scarecrow\, Tinman\, and Cowardly Lion – whilst in Oz. DESCRIPTION:After several years of pushing the queer porn filmmaking agenda in Scotland\, SQIFF is delighted to be able to showcase some (sort of) homemade pornographic content. Bruce LaBruce creates a parody Scots porn character in Scotch Egg. Performer Candy Flip plays a straight girl impersonating a gay man and in a festish bar meets the homo she’s dreamed about\, played by Scottish performer AJ Alexander. DESCRIPTION:The Book of Gabrielle is a clever dramedy about an intimate yet platonic relationship that develops between a female graphic artist and an older male erotic novelist. Saul delights in Gabrielle’s description of her past affairs and ongoing relationship with her younger girlfriend\, Olivia (Anna Koval)\, just as Gabrielle likes to explore masculinity through Saul. Does he help Gabrielle find her artistic voice or is Saul finding his? Does she need to break from his patriarchy in order to find herself? \nTo coincide with the launch of the film\, director and star Lisa Gornick presents an accompanying live drawing show What (the Fuck) is Lesbian Cinema?
