SUMMARY:Workshop: Queer Speculative Fiction with Katalina Watt
DESCRIPTION:Katalina Watt is an Edinburgh-based author and publisher with a background in digital publishing\, copywriting\, and bookselling. A champion of representative voices and stories\, she has been published in various anthologies and magazines\, and was longlisted for Penguin Random House UK’s 2020 Write Now programme. She is currently working on her debut Horror-Fantasy short story collection inspired by folklore of the Philippine islands. DESCRIPTION:We are taking part in DIVE IN Cinema\, a two-week online screening series in collaboration with other film festivals and exhibitors in Scotland. \nDIVE IN Cinema will offer a mixture of features and short films across fiction\, documentary and experimental work\, as well as a few filmmaker conversations. Each screening will be programmed by one of the contributing exhibitors and will be available on demand for 48 hours from its start time\, with a new programme released at 10am every day. \nSQIFF’s programme is called A is for Asexual and will be available to view online for 48 hours from 10am on Wednesday 15 July. \nHighlighting new work around perhaps the most under-represented identity in queer cinema\, this programme celebrates films by and about asexual people of colour. DESCRIPTION:LGBT Health & Wellbeing is a charity promoting the health\, wellbeing\, and equality of lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, and transgender people in Scotland and providing support\, services\, and information. Two of the organisation’s groups have recently created collectively-made short films\, which we will showcase at this event. Luminate commissioned the film with support from LGBT Health and Wellbeing. This is a documentary exploring issues around care for older LGBT people. Everything Just Collapsed is an experimental short reflecting on stigma and survival by Tim Knights in collaboration with participants of The LGBT Mental Wellbeing Collective. DESCRIPTION:We are really pleased to be taking part in Jupiter Rising music festival with 2 programmes of short films during the 3-day festival. Other areas include a bar\, cinema\, workshops and activities tent\, all of which are wheelchair accessible and undercover. \nThe ground at Jupiter Artland is grass\, paths\, natural woodland and meadow\, which can sometimes be uneven underfoot or for wheelchair users. \nAccessible camping is located in a meadow\, a short distance away from the main stages. SUMMARY:Pink Excavation
DESCRIPTION:Pink Excavation is Natasha Lall’s first feature length film. With Lall as the narrator and cameos from local queers Mina Baird and Junie Latte\, this DIY film explores the preservation of queer histories in Glasgow\, 2518. Pink Excavation sees Lall excavate 90s-00s technological relics that are outdated in the 2500s and become frustrated at their lack of understanding on how to access information from these ancient technologies. Upon interactions with an archaeologist and a ghost Lall discusses whether or not the poor archiving of LGBT culture has a positive impact on the queer community. Amrou Al-Khadi\, Year: 2017\nNazeem is a 26 year old Middle Eastern drag queen who names herself QUEEN ZA DREAM – she is preparing for a show with the utmost gravity\, with an outfit evocative of an Egyptian deity.
 Interwoven with this is the story of Nazeem as a genderqueer 8 year-old boy\, and the close bond he has with his Iraqi-Egyptian mother\, Halima. Whilst flamboyant and in many ways a drag queen herself on the surface\, Halima is governed by the strict expectations of gender in Arab society. \nCinema Fouad (41m)\nDir. Mohamed Soueid\, Year: 1994\nKhaled\, a Syrian transgender migrant dreams of undergoing gender transition surgery. While trying to make a living from various menial jobs\, she falls in love with a Palestinian freedom fighter and joins his resistance. Gently\, compassionately\, Cinema Fouad draws a portrait of Khaled and introduces the viewer to one of Beirut’s rarely seen netherworlds.

SUMMARY:Workshop: Exploring LGBTQ Experiences of Sexual Violence
DESCRIPTION:SQIFF partners with Forth Valley Rape Crisis Centre to offer an interactive workshop which explores the impacts of sexual violence on LGBTQ people\, and considers how to improve the support available to the queer community from third sector feminist services. Discussion will focus on intersections of gender\, sexuality\, and sexual violence generally rather than talking about personal experiences. However\, support information will be provided at the beginning and end of the session. Although this workshop is interactive\, there will be no pressure to actively participate. LGBTQ people of all genders are welcome.  \nFacilitated by Loraine Williams\, an LGBTQ activist who has worked in the gender based violence sector for over ten years. DESCRIPTION:Two OWL (older\, wiser lesbian) couples accidentally kill a younger woman and hide the body but their dark secret comes back to haunt them in Cheryl Dunye’s experimental\, collaborative movie\, The Owls. Featuring Dunye’s trademark\, self-reflexive style where both characters and actors create video diaries adjacent to the main narrative\, The Owls also attempted collective filmmaking with cast and crew encouraged to pitch in ideas.\n \nThose involved form a roll call of lesbian film excellence with Guinevere Turner\, Lisa Gornick\, V.S. Brodie\, and Dunye playing the ageing\, bitter queers\, and Sarah Schulman\, Alex Juhasz\, and Campbell X amongst others working behind the scenes. Dunye’s fourth feature film as director is an under-appreciated examination of lesbian culture and aesthetics with a good dose of crime movie genre fun thrown in. \n \nThe film will be introduced by SQIFF’s Helen Wright.
