SUMMARY:I Do?: Cloudburst (Edinburgh)
DESCRIPTION:Grouchy\, foul-mouthed Stella and sweet\, straight-talking Dotty are a lesbian couple from Maine who embark on a Thelma and Louise-style road trip to Nova Scotia to get married after Dotty is moved to a nursing home by her granddaughter. Adapted from the director’s own stage play\, Cloudburst highlights marriage as a necessity for gay people’s survival in the face of poverty and homophobic relatives whilst also flirting with the idea of lifelong commitment as a tender and compelling feature of queer life. \nWith an introduction by SQIFF’s Leanne Dawson. The screening marks the one year anniversary of the law in Scotland changing to allow two people of the same gender to marry. \nRated 15. \n£5. We have a number of free tickets to give away. If you can’t afford the ticket price for any reason\, please email helen@sqiff.org or call 07735 273 245 to register for free entry. \nMedia Education is a wheelchair accessible venue with level access throughout and an accessible toilet. We hope to screen the film with English subtitles for accessibility and and have a BSL interpreter for the introduction and will update on this soon. \nPart of SQIFF presents: I Do?\, a season of films marking the one year anniversary of changes to the marriage law in Scotland. Part of BFI LOVE\, in partnership with Plusnet bfi.org.uk/love. \n[bra_button text=’Buy Tickets’ url=’https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/i-do-cloudburst-edinburgh-tickets-19631599643′ target=’_blank’ size=’medium’ style=’rounded’ color=’pink’]
