SQIFF are recruiting volunteers for this year’s Festival!
SQIFF 2018 will take place 5th – 9th December in Glasgow. A training session which all volunteers are expected to attend will be held on the afternoon of Saturday 1st December 2018 at the Centre for Contemporary Arts (Glasgow City Centre). Previous experience is not required but enthusiasm for SQIFF’s commitment to equality and improving accessibility to the arts is essential.

Why volunteer for SQIFF?
As part of the SQIFF volunteer team, you will provide invaluable support to the Festival, playing a vital role in ensuring the smooth running and success of the Festival. You will gain experience working as part of a team at an inclusive international queer arts festival, and you’ll also get to meet plenty of amazing people from film directors to audience members to actors. When on duty, there will be some time to catch some of the films. When not on duty, you’ll get free access to screenings and workshops depending on availability.
What we are looking for in SQIFF volunteers?

- People who are often marginalised from volunteering or working in the arts, for example: LGBTIQ+ people, people of colour, working class people, and people with disabilities
- People with an interest in films and/or filmmaking, particularly LGBTIQ+ filmmaking
- People who want to develop skills in team work and communication
- People who are open-minded and want to learn
- People who want to develop experience working in the arts and culture sectors
- People who are interested in accessibility in the arts
What will volunteers do at SQIFF?
Most of our volunteers will be part of the front of house team and responsible for the smooth running of events at SQIFF. You will be welcoming audiences, distributing tickets, overseeing monitoring and evaluation, answering queries and questions, promoting Festival events, and assisting with the welcoming of filmmakers and guests to the festival.
What is the required commitment of volunteers?
The majority of shifts will take place at CCA and will be 4 hours long with breaks. You must commit to a minimum of two shifts. You will be working in teams and will have time to catch some of the films when you are on duty. There will be two evening shifts at our parties (where you will have time to party too!)
You must attend our volunteer training session on Saturday 1st December in Glasgow.
What access measures exist for volunteers?
We have a travel fund to offer costs to volunteers who need this to be able to take part. There is no limit to the amount of costs we can reimburse for travel this year. For example, if you’re travelling from other parts of Scotland outside Glasgow to volunteer, we can consider this. Please let us know the amount you would require to cover travel when applying and we will distribute this fund as fairly as possible.
Accessibility measures we will have in place for everyone attending the 2018 Festival include: all venues have good access for wheelchair users and those with other mobility issues; all films will screen with English language subtitles or captions; BSL interpretation is available for all extended introductions, Q&As, and discussions at our main venue, CCA; we have a large print brochure available and large print programme and audience feedback handouts; we will have audio description at 2 events at CCA this year; some venues have induction loops available; we will have comfy seating (bean bags) available; we will have a quiet space available at CCA for the 3 busiest days of the Festival and at The Space on London Road.
