The Untold Tales of Armistead Maupin celebrates a beloved storyteller, following his evolution from conservative son of the Old South to gay rights pioneer whose novels inspired others to reclaim their lives. Director Jennifer M. Kroot weaves a fascinating life story exploring a creative artist who served in Vietnam and was invited to the White House to meet Richard Nixon before being radicalised and becoming San Francisco’s great chronicler. For anyone who’s ever read Tales of the City or any of Maupin’s other excellent books and wondered what the man who wrote them is like.
