Chavela

September 28, 2017 @ 8:30 pm - 10:00 pm

£5.50

Co-directors Catherine Gund and Daresha Kyi interweave candid stories told by Mexican ranchera singer Chavela Vargas and those closest to her in this multi-faceted biographical film. An incomparable performer, she was also a lesbian woman who defied all social expectations, revolutionising music and challenging the stereotypical macho and hetero cultural norms of the times. This epic film beautifully captures Chavela’s fearless life, powerful artistry, and passionate love affairs, including her romance with the equally magnificent Frida Kahlo.

We are delighted to welcome director Catherine Gund, who will join us after the screening for a Q&A. In partnership with Scottish Documentary Institute.

ACCESS: Level access at entrance of Glasgow Film Theatre with Screen 2 on ground floor. Accessible toilet available. Spanish and English languages with English subtitles. Hearing loop. If you would like to attend and require BSL interpretation for the Q&A, please email info@sqiff.org and we will book this for you.
