Queer Women in Love: Stud Life (Glasgow)

November 29, 2015 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Stud Life

JJ is a black lesbian ‘stud’ working as a wedding photographer with white gay best friend, Seb. When JJ falls in love with the beautiful and mysterious Elle, JJ and Seb’s friendship is tested for the first time as JJ has to choose between her hot new lover and her friend. Meanwhile, Seb rejects the advances of local drug dealer Smack Jack because he’s too busy lusting over ‘straightacting’ Manchester Joe from Gaydar. Stud Life depicts a slice of life inside an urban London LGBT scene rarely shown, where gender is up for grabs but desire follows strict rules. Directed by boundary-pushing filmmaker and campaigner for better representation of queer people of colour, Campbell X.

Screening with short film Janine by Cheryl Dunye, a video about a black lesbian woman’s relationship with a white, upper middle class girl when they were both in high school. Direct address and visual metaphor are used to examine class, race, and sexual difference.

Rated 18.
