LEAP Sports Scotland presents: Light in the Water

In 1982, soon after the first Gay Games was held in the US, ‘West Hollywood Swim Club,’ as it was known then, registered as the first openly gay masters swim and water polo club. This documentary follows the club’s battle for acceptance, from humble beginnings to its members becoming a renowned force fighting injustice in the world of competitive sports. A fascinating historical record of sport, prejudice, and community love and survival.
Join LEAP Sports Scotland after the film to discuss the role of LGBTI sports clubs with David Barbour (Saltire Thistle FC), Lenna Cumberbatch (Paris Gay Games 2018), Pantelis (Leon) Xydias (Glasgow Alphas RFC), and Ian McBain (Glasgow FrontRunners).

Film is in the English language with English language subtitles/captions.
Film contains some visual ideas but has a lot of dialogue, so is relatively suitable for blind and partially sighted audiences. Large print versions of handouts available.

Tickets
In order to make SQIFF more accessible to those on a low income, we use a sliding scale ticket price of £0-£8 for our events. You can choose what you pay based on your circumstances – you won’t be asked for any proof / ID, we just ask that you are honest! Our ticket sales go towards supporting the vital work of LGBTQ+ filmmakers, artists and organisers.
