Ghost In The Shell

September 25, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 9:15 pm

Free

SOLD OUT- MORE TICKETS MAY BE AVAILABLE ON THE NIGHT

A female cyborg cop and her partner hunt a mysterious and powerful hacker called the Puppet Master in a future where humanity shifts between flesh and machine. While sometimes read as subverting fixed ideas about gender and sexuality, Mamoru Oshii’s anime classic also appears to centre bodies which are always either male or (graphically) female.

Preceded by short film elf by Amy van Houten: elf – an Efficient Life Form – is an android on a quest for feeling in the City of Johannesburg.

Screening as part of Explorathon, Scotland’s European Researchers’ Night and followed by a discussion led by Dr Steven Greer on what – if anything – is queer about the cyborg.

Content note: animated depiction of graphic violence and death.

Screening with English subtitles.

Free but ticketed. To book tickets please use the button below.
