Femme Brutal

Combining provocative burlesque performance with frank backstage discussion, Femme Brutal explores the ways in which seven artists use the stage to engage with and challenge cultural representations of femininity. Madame Cameltoe and Frau Professor La Rose, amongst others, place a spotlight on the naked body and sexual desire. A celebration of femme identities with a unique insight into the motivations and backgrounds of queer feminist performers at Austria’s Club Burlesque Brutal.

Screening with short Too Wide (7 mins) by Moyin Saka and Travis Alabanza. Followed by a discussion on femme identity and performance hosted by University of Edinburgh’s Dr. Leanne Dawson and featuring queer film festival programmer and researcher Theresa Heath and activist, artist, and researcher Eliza Goroya.

ACCESS: Level access with Cinema plus accessible toilets all on ground floor (CCA). Film in German with English subtitles. Hearing loop available. If you would like to attend and require BSL interpretation for the discussion, please email info@sqiff.org at least one week in advance.

£5 / £4 conc / Free for unemployed and asylum seekers. Festival pass £40 / £30 conc. All prices include booking fee.
